Many GP practices have stopped offering wax removal. The GPs that are still offering it use the Syringing treatment method which is known to have many contraindications and it is not the preferred method for ear wax removal practice. Referrals to be seen at the hospital for Microsuction can come with very long waiting times however, we can offer same day services if need be (depending on the texture of your wax). We also use the latest state of the art technology to provide safe and effective treatment.
You may experience one or more of the following –
- Discomfort in the ear
- Hearing impairment which is worsened after a shower or swim
- Persistent itching sensation
- Tinnitus (Ringing/buzzing in the ear)
- Unexplained dizziness
- Feedback from hearing aids
- Occluding sensation
Not every person is the same and this also applies to ear wax as some people naturally build more wax than others. Saying this, certain factors can impact wax build up too:
- Narrow ear canals
- Excessive amount of hair in the ear canals
- Age
- Use of cotton buds
- Regular use of hearing aid earmoulds and earphones
Earwax removal should always be carried out by a healthcare professional. Avoid using items such as cotton buds- these can be dangerous when used to clean your ears. Book an appointment today to ensure a safe way to remove ear wax .
The use of a olive oil spray such as Earol 2/3 times a day for at least 5 days prior to your appointment is good practice to ensure wax is removed safely and effectively. However, in some cases an instant wax removal service can be provided without the requirement of using olive oil drops (If wax is already soft in texture). If a client has a perforation or mastoid cavity it is best to seek professional medical advice on whether drops should be used prior to treatment.
If it is proving difficult to remove all the wax in one appointment, we will arrange a second appointment, charges may apply.
